Gait and Stance Analysis

Here at Cutting Edge Podiatry our advanced technology assists our practitioners in assessing our patient’s gait and stance. We house the ZEBRIS treadmill which has “individually calibrated sensors integrated under the running belt” providing our podiatrists with a comprehensive analysis of the various aspects of gait. Inclusive of pressure distribution, force, movement and gait length.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

GAIT ANALYSIS

Our Gait analysis is comprehensive, timely and easy to use for all patients. In 30 seconds of walking or running, the machine can measure gait parameters including; how you land and distribute pressures in each foot. The ZEBRIS treadmill uses highly advanced technology helping the practitioner to highlight and evaluate any biomechanical irregularities of the lower limb.

Whilst walking or running, our cameras capture movements from different angles allowing for a comprehensive overview from different view points.

The “roll off” videos show the patients gait and takes measurements. This is just one of many points where the podiatrist can collect data. This tool is useful for assessment and reassessment to see if a patient has improved their gait after being fitted with orthotics or provided an alternate intervention such as strapping, change of footwear, padding or exercises.

The data from the sensors in the treadmill is transferred to the intuitive FDM-T evaluation software which develops a well-founded evaluation report. This detailed report allows our podiatrists to view any further possible discrepancies in a patient’s gait, that was not seen in the videos or clinical measurements, and make further objective recommendations.

STANCE ANALYSIS:

Stance analysis gives objective measurements and a different perspective from the gait analysis. It is utilised by our podiatrist to gain insight into hip, pelvic and spine parameters. Furthermore, it gives a reliable indication of altered lower limb lengths. This is further combined with a comprehensive and intuitive centre of pressure mapping.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

The gait analysis performed on the ZEBRIS treadmill is quick and easy. The physical assessment of walking, running or standing lasts 30 seconds or less. The treadmill is only a small portion which makes up the whole biomechanical assessment appointment which can take up to 45 minutes in total.

IS IT HARD?

Using the ZEBRIS treadmill is not hard at all. If you struggle with walking however, our podiatrist will make sure the treadmill is at a comfortable speed for you and are ready to stop the machine at any point if needed.
